Terracotta Warriors

8,000 life-sized clay soldiers guarding Emperor Qin's tomb. The single most important archaeological discovery of the 20th century. Allow 3-4 hours. Go early morning to beat crowds.

Ancient City Wall

The most complete city wall in China — 14km circuit you can bike in 90 minutes. Rent bikes at the South Gate. Sunset ride is unforgettable.

Muslim Quarter

A 1,000-year-old neighborhood where Chinese and Islamic culture collide. Street food capital of China: lamb skewers, roujiamo (Chinese hamburger), biangbiang noodles.

Big Wild Goose Pagoda

7th-century Buddhist pagoda — symbol of Xi'an. The surrounding Tang Paradise is worth an evening visit for the light shows.
