Questions
When should I start preparing for a China trip?
About 10 weeks before departure if you may need a visa, so there is time to apply. If you travel visa-free or on 240-hour transit, 6–8 weeks is usually enough to set up payments, phone data and insurance.
Do Alipay and WeChat Pay work with US cards?
Yes. Visitors can link international Visa, Mastercard and American Express cards in both apps and pay merchants in yuan. Set them up and verify your identity before you leave.
Will Google and my usual apps work in China?
Some Google services and several social and messaging apps are not accessible on ordinary Chinese networks. Plan another way for family to reach you and download offline maps and translation before you go.
Can I add the checklist to my calendar?
Yes. Download the .ics file and every task appears in Apple Calendar, Google Calendar or Outlook on its due date.
