Each warrior has a unique face. Vault 1 (the main hall, 11 columns of soldiers stretching 230m) is staggering in scale. Vault 2 has the best preserved individual figures and the famous kneeling archer. Vault 3 is the command center. Your guide makes this extraordinary history feel personal. Allow 2–2.5 hours. Brief hotel check-in, then your guide takes you to Huimin Street (the Muslim Quarter) — a labyrinthine food market where Xi'an's Hui Muslim community has operated for 1,000 years. The Shaanxi History Museum holds the finest collection of Tang dynasty gold, silver, and pottery in the world. Free entry (advance booking required). The highlight: the Golden Buddha statue and the Tang ceramic horses. A 5-minute walk: the Big Wild Goose Pagoda (652 AD) where the monk Xuanzang translated the Buddhist scriptures he brought back from India. Xi'an's most serene landmark.
